Legal Statement
Our Legality Statement
We are a church that engages in the sincere use of various Sacraments. These sincere religious practices and use of Sacraments are legally secured by state and federal law, including but not limited to the federal Religious Freedom Restoration Act and analogous provisions of state Constitutional and statutory law. The Sanctuary believes the human soul is in mystical union with God/Source. The Sanctuary believes this union can only be experienced through primary religious/mystical experiences induced through the use of our Sacrament. Our Sacraments allow us to connect, heal, and transform with ourselves and with the surrounding community.
The Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) protects sincere religious practices from government interference unless the government can meet a very difficult standard. Using this standard, their other religious organizations have gained recognition for their spiritual use of the sacrament of ayahuasca. Dozens, perhaps hundreds, of other organizations are practicing under this law and the government has largely avoided interfering with such practices. While the church has a good faith belief that the use of these Sacraments is under law, you should assess your own state’s law on religious freedom to determine if engaging in work with the church is right for you; you take responsibility for your own choices; and you should inform yourself about the legal policies, risks, and consequences in your legal jurisdiction.
